The Importance of Blogging for an Online Home Business

If you have a blog associated with your home business you should be using it frequently – daily if possible or close as you can get. If you do not have a blog associated with your business, get one today.

It is a powerful, FREE way to get free traffic that may become sales or leads (your list). If you can’t even do this much to promote your business, with all due respect, you may not be serious or committed enough to ever succeed with your online business.

Maybe this is the issue and the juncture where you should make a decision. You want a business, or not really that much. Hopefully it won’t be the case here, but maybe you should just quit while you are ahead if it doesn’t mean enough even to do something for free to promote your business.’ It will still require time and effort to compose blogs unless you can pay a ‘ghostwriter’ or have some other blog service.

This should be pretty telling to ask yourself if you really want a business or would you rather go out to lunch? On the one hand you are building and developing something that will pay you back someday if you play your cards right and invest your time and effort for an extended period. On the other hand, if you can afford to go out to lunch then you can afford to get your business running but only if you really want to.

You can set up a blog at blogspot.com absolutely free. It is just basic but it will work to get traffic to your website. (Use your domain name URL to your website or affiliate link as part of your signature on each article). The search engines will help you to build back-links to and from the blog or website.

Or if you don’t mind spending a few dollars to buy a domain and hosting you can also set up a free WordPress account and have a blog there. With WordPress you can actually create a top-level website on your domain and then add WordPress (*blog) using a simple utility in your hosting account cPanel.

The cost for both domain and hosting is minimal – the cost of doing lunch out – once a year for the domain name registration and once a month for the hosting cost.

Even though it seems like the majority of people trying to start a home business cry broke, almost everybody has a few dollars they can spare themselves to build some kind of an operating budget if they have the right priorities. You will be the only one that will regret it if you make the wrong choices.

Starting a Home Business – Maintaining a Positive Mindset

It is very important, maybe even critical for you to have faith in yourself and the universe in general. It can be very difficult especially if you read the news and/or have unresolved personal issues.

create a positive mindset

It may seem obvious that we have to try to balance everything so that no matter how bad things get, we can still see the light. We may have to conjure up some good thoughts if we don’t find any when we search our own data.

If necessary to turn things around we may have to just get away from the whole situation. Go out and force ourselves to enjoy something – fun, food, sun, fresh air, friends, relatives, etc. Whenever thoughts come up that are about our problems, for at least this period of our escape, we must refuse to entertain negative thoughts.

We can do this by consciously slamming the door that goes that way. Grab hold of a pleasant thought and stick to it. You can do this with a short prayer requesting that you be given faith; or you may think about something of beauty such as sunrise or sunset, the ocean or the trees. Focus on whatever you really love and then imagine you are there right now.

With a home business you can actually use your actions to promote your business and subsequently improve your mindset at the same time. This speaks to the fact that instead of getting discouraged because you have not seen many results yet and letting this cause you to lose interest. It is perfectly normal to have to take action over a period of time in order to produce results.

Many think they should see results without putting forth any effort or investing any time. If you think about the logic of this there isn’t any. You must be realistic if you need to work a little harder for a little longer. Again this is a good thing because eventually you are apt to see improvement in your bottom line because of the extra effort and this will cheer you up and encourage you.

Keep it Real With Your New Year’s Resolutions

Just like your target goals, if you make them unrealistically high, you will do nothing but disappoint and discourage yourself when it is not possible to meet your expectations. This surely does not engender the motivation you need to develop a business. Keep your goals and resolutions doable. Think logically rather than to ‘shoot for the moon’.

keep it real!

There will be obstacles in any new endeavor and there will be times when you can’t see any results yet. This is just such a time when your awareness that you have not met your goals will start to weigh on you. You need to arm yourself with coping mechanisms like being realistic, that will allow you to stay positive no matter what it looks like.

One important thing to remember is it is not about one campaign or one weekend of working to promote your business. It is about being consistent over time. Although it is commendable that you took action you have to realize it is almost nothing in the grand scope of things. This is working hard vs hardly working. Take that one thing you did or those few days you expended some energy toward developing your business and use it as a plan for what you need to do all the time, maybe for a long time in order to see substantial results.

You can break your resolutions down into logical stages or levels just like your target goals. You can have short, medium and long-term goals that are achievable. To break this down into an easy example, you might aim to earn $100 a month in the short-term and plan to achieve $200 a month at 6-months in and plan on $400 in one-year. If you keep on extrapolating, (and working steadily) in a few years you will have a nice income from your home business.

This is definitely not to say everyone could progress at this level, but keep in mind it is proportionate to how much effort you can invest. Maybe if your level of action is lukewarm for example you should make your goals, $50, $100, $200 – Still doubling but at a lower amount. It’s all good. You are not competing with anybody but yourself.

Just remember, ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’. You have to be really realistic about how much effort you are really making. It is sad yet comical to hear people whine and moan about having done so much work and not to see results yet. When you ask what they did it is almost nothing. This is sad because the person has magical thinking and expects something for nothing. It’s not logical to think you will get something for nothing. You should realize you need to be doing the work to build a business slowly and steadily over time. This is the way it is for most legitimate businesses in reality.
