Information is Power Only If You Take Action with It

We certainly do see a lot of references to the fact that information is power. It is great to know facts and theories but unless we use it for something it is just filed away in our memory bank. We are very fortunate in having access to the Internet which is a vast ocean of information. There is almost nothing that you may wish to ask a search engine that you can’t get pages of links that reference your topic.

use info-power

The point being with regard to Internet marketing and all that this involves, we can get a good idea of the techniques and strategies absolutely for free if we are just interested. So the initial action would be to use the available, free resources online as a constant reference. Whatever it is, just ‘look it up’ (search). This would seem particularly relevant to new terminology that we encounter if we are just starting out to develop an online business.

This is more important than you might think because if you are reading instructions and you encounter a word or acronym you are not familiar with, if you just ‘evade’ it, whether you are conscious of it or not, from that point on you are in a kind of haze. So actually not taking a minute to find out what it means, is possibly wasting all the time you spend after the encounter. If we use a recipe for a cake as an analogy, leaving out the leavening will produce a flat rock rather than the fluffy delight we are hoping for.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is one area that may be one of the least understood elements in the beginning of an Internet marketing career. It just sounds very technical and as such seems to create almost an aversion. The reason it is so important that this be overcome sooner rather than later, is that #1 the search engines are like the traffic cops – they can pretty much make you or break you as far as traffic being one of the top concerns for an online business, so you want to do all you can to cultivate a good relationship; #2 It is a powerful, free way to promote your business.

With just a little bit of research and probably millions of links that can help you toward that end, it seems like this would be one of the primary strategies to promote an online business. Instead it seems like only when one becomes more sophisticated or experienced they take the time to find out what SEO is about and to begin to use it. It’s no wonder that so many people quit before ever getting to that point, and in truth the only problem is they weren’t really interested in putting forth the effort to learn.

How to Get Free Traffic for Your Online Business

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the best way to drive traffic to your website for free. Not only is it free, it is the best kind of traffic (targeted). Targeted traffic is best because it is actually going to send you people who are looking for what you have. This is based on your keywords. ‘Keywords’ are relevant phrases that define what your site is about exactly.

driving traffic

The Search Engine robots crawl websites on a regular basis, usually every 30-days unless there is activity (fresh content). When they crawl a site that appears to be dormant, (nothing fresh, no traffic, etc.) then they just leave and come back next time. However if they see that the site has fresh content they will re-index the site. The index is their database of all the websites on the Internet.

When your site is re-indexed, that means that your link is promoted to a higher position in their search results. You want to strive to be as close to Page One as possible (this may be a long-term goal) and you have to work at it constantly. One thing about Internet marketing in general is that you must be consistently building your momentum with everything you do to promote your business.

Posting once a month would be the minimum, if you want your site to be seen as being relevant at all. With a straight HTML website, it is difficult to make significant changes even once a month. That is why it is a brilliant idea to have a blog on your website. It is considerably easier to post to a blog than to be changing your code, adding pages, etc., to create fresh content.}

At the very least if you have a separate blog, you would want to link it to your website. You can do this by creating back-links in your content that refers back and forth – On the website, refer to the blog (link), on the blog refer to the website (link). Again though, it is a much brighter idea to have the site built on the WordPress platform so that it is seen as a page on your website. These are considered pages in a sense and so then you begin to be indexed not just for your home page but for each post you add.

If you do not feel comfortable writing then you will need to get over that unless you can afford to pay for a ghostwriter to create articles for you. There are also other options that are of lesser significance, such as posting other people’s articles (and giving them credit as the author as well as posting their links). You can also get PLR articles and change them around to make them unique.

SEO is a long-term strategy and the more you contribute to your own site the more important you results will become. It’s really not wise to ignore search engine techniques because it is far more significant and powerful than most other free techniques such as traffic exchanges. This is not to say that can’t work also, and it may be a good idea to do both.

Internet Marketing – Free SEO Traffic

Search engines are a very important aspect to any Internet marketing business. Search engine optimization (SEO) is one technique that has it all. SEO can be effective, it can be free, and it is easy to learn and do, although it takes some work.

SEO!

All one needs to do is go to a search engine like google.com and type in ‘search engine optimization’ and they can find free information on what it is and how to do it – or have it done. Even though you are intending to do it yourself for free, you can still use the links you will find for paid SEO services just to learn.

Taking the word ‘optimization’ and looking at the reference in Merriam Webster’s dictionary, “an act, process, or methodology of making something (as a design, system, or decision) as fully perfect, functional, or effective as possible”. So this is another big clue about what exactly SEO is.

SEO is one of those acronyms that you will see bandied about quite frequently in Internet marketing circles. We shouldn’t be intimidated by references that we do not understand and the best way to limit any feelings of disorientation caused by them is to find out what they mean. So now we know, and we can continue on to learn just what is involved.

There are wonderful SEO sites that have as much useful information as any paid course and provide free eBooks to download, as well as many other resources that are there for you to use for free. A few of the most notable are searchengineland.com, seobook.com, searchenginewatch.com. Of course, Google itself has some webmaster tools you can use to do direct research once you get started.

‘Content’ and ‘keywords’ are some of the SEO terminology you will also encounter frequently. These are both key elements to SEO and getting free traffic from using SEO strategies. This traffic is said to be ‘targeted’ (by keyword usage) and ‘organic’ (free and natural). “Organic search results are listings on search engine results pages that appear because of their relevance to the search terms, (keywords) as opposed to their being advertisements”. (From Wikipedia.org)

There are definite rules that must be observed if one wants to use SEO as a strategy for successfully promoting an online business. You should learn what they are and realize that with basic honesty, just as in anything, you will be fine. Don’t try to take short-cuts or play any tricks, because you are dealing with robots that don’t miss much.

Most gimmicks that may appear to work well, (increase your traffic) may eventually harm your search engine ranking. Many ‘linking’ schemes – for example, buying links for the purpose of SEO, or another example, ‘keyword stuffing’ may cause your site ranking to be penalized. So we need to know what to do and what not to do to take full advantage of this strategy.
